The GED Examination scores are benchmarked against the many graduating high school seniors. Presently, the passing rating on the GED exams are equal to what the highest 60 percent of high school graduating seniors would earn. The GED credential is issued by Illinois for students dwelling in Illinois. The GED credential is usually considered to be equal to a IL high school diploma.

Illinois GED Test Overview

The GED Exams consist of one written essay and five topic area examinations. The topic area tests contain a total of 240 multiple option questions. IL students are given a total of 425 minutes to complete the entire examination. More detailed helpful hints on the exams are given out below.

Assesses a student’s skill to revise and edit office and informational documents. Covers areas such as: usage, organization, mechanics, and sentence structure.

Time: 45 minutes

Measures the student’s capacity to write down an essay that informs, clarifies or explains. Topics don't require specialized knowledge as they are general in nature.
